UV scanner question

Sometimes i see people at boards talking about something they call UV scanner. Sometimes there are pictures much better than Sonar. Is this some other kind of visioning system or am i deluded in thinking itīs something else?

UV scanner? Not sure what they are referring to. Must be someone using the wrong word for side scan sonar? The only systems i am aware of for imaging the seabed is Side scan sonar, multi beam sonar and sub bottom profilers. Of those systems side scan sonar will give you the most detailed images of wrecks above the sea bed. Sub bottom profilers use a low freq that can penetrate the seabed.

Perhaps a side scan mounted on a DPV is what they are referring to?
