I have some questions about the "new" Halcyon Evolve wing...

There is two different sizes, 40lbs and 60lbs, witch dubbels are best match for these?
Ex. I have 2x12x232, shall I choose 40 or 60?

And were is the limit for the 40, and were starts the 60?

You guys who have tested this, what is the differens between the "old" Explorer and Evolve?

Thanks in advance for your answers! :)

The 40lbs is a perfect overall size for baltic wreck´ntech diving. Works great with your suggested tanks along with stages. I use it for even bigger tanks but that me.

As soon as I have a student test my Evolve they instantly wanna change or steal it from me - Its that good

If I want to test one, do you know if the guys on Oceanic Tech will borrow me one for a testdive?

Violence is not always a bad thing - I'm sure you can get them to lend u one :p

Since switching to the Evolve (I use a 40 lbs model with 2x12x232bar) I have noticed three distinct features in comparison to a same-size Explorer.

Dumping gas through the rear OP Valve is noticably easier - allot easier, in fact.

The narrower profile of the wing gives you a 'slicker' feel, and side-mounted equipment (such as cannsister light, argon bottle, etc) feels less 'bunched up'.

The gathering of gas in the lower end of the wing (the bottom of the donut) actually made good trim easier to maintain, in my opinion.

Furthermore, as a minor point of observation, the wing is more quiet, as there is less rumbling of gas transfer behind your head. :)

All in all I consider the Evolve an all-round upgrade from the Explorer, advantageous in every way.

If you can't afford an evolve wing. don't try it.. ;)

U'll be miserable untill you get one :)

I love my evolve...

Another advantage: I'm using 2x7x232bar with a wide manifold (I hope that's the right term...) for some recdives. Even though the Evolve 40lbs is a bit long, it fits good on the tanks and doesn't overlap like the Explorer would.

Based on all the comments so far, why would anyone consider buying a brand new Explorer wing? Are there any special situations when the Explorer might be better suited for example?

I see no need. I have the Evolve 40, and would see no need to swith back to an Explorer. Gas movement throughout the wing is smooth and like mentioned before the OPV dumps with very little effort. Although I did hear from my Dealer recently thet H has recalled a small batch of the Evolve's due to an OPV problem. ( I have to chek my serial number) I plan on looking into it a little more this week.

I think that the problem with the OPV is on the Explorer not the Evolve...

Hi Richard,
Just on the subject of the evolve wings. I recently bought the evolve wing changing over from the explorer. I use the #40 with the 2x12x232 and 2 to 3 40cf deco tanks and it works like a dream!!!
However I used to use a explorer #55 for the deeper dives with a 2x15x232 and 1x80cf stage and 3x40cf deco. You mensioned that you use the #40 with bigger tanks. Would the #40 be suffiecient for the above confiquration or do i need a evolve #60 as well?? Thanks for the reply
Cheers

I (and many others here in Japan) use the Evolve 40 with 2x14x200 steels and it works perfect. These 14s are close to the European long 12s only slightly wider. Not sure about the 15s you use. I have a Evolve 60 for larger tanks than 14 (like 18).

Sounds like the 14s are very similar to our steel 15s here downunder.what stages / deco are you using when wearing the #40 evolve?

One or two Alu 40/30s, and sometimes an Alu 80. Most diving we do here are 30-50 m so often only one Alu 40 50%.
