Hi Gang,

I am looking at putting a first aid kit together for long range diving expeditions.

Aside from O2 kits which we always take, does anyone have a list of suggested items that they would take on a 3-4 day expedition? We are in a remote location where there are no hospitals and we will be diving for 3 days.

Any help, appreciated.

Ali, I got an infected foot diving 3.5km into Cocklebiddy Cave. Was very painful putting the fin back on for the journey out.

I would suggest a range of antibiotics to cover different infections. As I found, it is too late to wait to you get home.

Regards

Hugh

Hi Hugh,

I have packed some antibiotic creams and dressings. Now. I hope your foot healed.

Sheers - for cutting suits or other material in an emergency, dressings, etc.

Tweezers, very pointy ones. Good for splinters and other little sharp things in your skin or in a wound.

I bought some shears, tweezers, splints and a suture kit as well. At present, I would only stitch myself up

Thanks all.

Hehe, I recall teaching a friend how run a suture. After that folks tended to avoid him whenever out bowhunting or engaged in other actitivities involving sharp objects. For remote areas (e.g., those areaas where access to more advanced medical treatment is counted in days) I actually prefer good butterfly dressings to sutures.
