Marlin Inn Dive Center will be organizing a HD video project to the SS Maidan in January 2007 in cooperation with Ocean Discovery.
We will spend 5 days above the wreck ranging between 90 and 120 meters.
Targets of the project include mapping of the wreck and collect HD video.
Also, the data retrieved will help for future organized dive tours for divers.
There will be enough He and O2 for 15 project divers.
We have another 5 places for support divers who will have opportunity to dive at Zabargad and Rocky Island every day.
We will be chartering a magnificent live aboard vessel for the project run by Sea Serpent Fleet. We have been given a good deal on this charter due to low season plus the high profile of the trip.
Hassan has made a nice write up of his dives to Maidan on this forum, so check it out http://www.ocean-discovery.org/forum/showthread.php?t=180
I will be updating this post as we go along, so come back every now and again.
This is a link to the boat we have chartered for this project:

(RL edit; there have been other previous successful projects to this site all stating how magnificent the wreck really is. Kimmo Hagman, www.kimmohagman.com (http://www.kimmohagman.com) & Colona, was one of the first explorers of this beautiful site and have some truly mind blowing pictures to prove it)

Hi guys,
Looks fantastic and i'd love to take part. Happy to do support but will be keen for an exploration position if possible. Dive often with Liam so we would make a good team... possibly of three if we can get someone else from Sydney on borad.
Look forward to hearing back.
Cheers

Update
We have decided to upgrade to an even bigger and more luxurious live aboard vessel - the Obsession.
160
The Obsession was launched in July, 2004 combining all the factors that will make her worthy of her name. She is 36 metres in length and provides cruising and diving in unparalleled luxury. The teak decks and carefully thought-out interiors make her a pleasure to dive from. The itinerary covers Areas I and II and the design of this wood vessel takes you between dive sites in the comfort that is expected by today's discerning liveaboard divers. The 10 cabins have either twin or two bunk berths, with cabin-controlled air-conditioning, en-suite facilities and towels. The accommodations allow the 20 guests privacy and convenience. The salon, which is cool, spacious and airy, has up-to-date entertainment facilities. Needless to say, the divedeck was also designed with divers in mind.
The Obsession has a better and more powerful gas filling system including a 500 min/liter membrane system enabeling us to carry far less oxygene onboard.

Cool Aaron! Get one more Aussie and I will make room for your team! You will be the base of a bottom exploration team for sure.
Take care

Hi,
Considering that Ahmed and I are both Australian nationals we could almost call this an aussie expedition! :)

Aida is a spectacular dive. I am sure it has never been properly filmed before. It goes down to about 85 meters I think.
Most divers who come here are only shallow divers as their main interest is the fishies and the corals. So no one really goes deeper than air in a single allows them.
The dive is totally radical because of the great marine life in the area plus the ship wreck is covered in a thick blanket of huge soft coral. I think it will be some real spectacular HD footage for the future.
Don't worry Ingemar, the Maidan project will not be the last one.
