Hi,
I'm interested in your experiences shooting with HD video cameras.
I feel like it's time to make the move, but wondering if I really should just go for the high-end camera (which I then have to lug through airports) or if something like the Sony HC3 might be OK.
Most video will be in somewhat murky/dark waters (Southern California, Seattle, Canada) etc.
I am shooting with dual 24W HID lights.
I think for sure the HC3 is good in tropical conditions but I have concerns over it's low-light abilities especially.

Hi
Forget the HC3 as Sony just have released some new 3-chipped ones:-)
Please check the attached PDF for more info.

Wow, thanks! That might be just what I am looking for.
Of course, it will probably be a while until L&M has a housing for it (unless they are secretly already working on one!)

I bet Amphibico, Gates and L&M will have one out before x-mass. There is a consumer version of the camcorder, the HDR-FX7E or U if you are from the US.

yeah, the FX7 might be more fitting with my current budget :)
Seems the only thing I really lose is the progressive mode, but we will see.
$4800 for the V1U seems a bit out of my range right now.

Hmm that looks nice. I wonder how much difference there is between the size/shape/control positions of that and the VX2000/PD150
Might have to go find one to play with.

From what I read, the one that Richard mentioned is almost a drop-in replacement for PD150 (there is a pre-review from some guy in England)
However, seems the cam is still quite large and is not that cheap. Even the FX7 is $3K US for camera.
I love the L&M housings but the problem is they are so tailored for one camera that it makes upgrading a real pain in the rear end.

If that is the case that would be great as I already have a XV2000 in a Gates housing, so Upgrading to HD would be cheaper than I initially thought. I really must go and find one "in the flesh" to compare.
Thanks

That would be a great option if it works, please keep us updated on your findings. On another note, If people could keep their old wide angle lenses that would also make life so much easier.
Warm regards

Sorry John, appears I was slightly misremembering.
it's supposed to be the PD170 that it's most similar to. Not sure if that's close to a PD150 or not.

Update:
I did a lot of research, talked to Light and Motion etc. and finally decided to fork out the $ and go for the FX1 in the L&M housing.
What swayed me:
1) With the L&M HC3 housing, I need to add an external monitor, which brings the price closer to the FX1
2) I think the 3 CCD's of the FX1 will be better in low light than the 3 CMOS sensors on the FX7/V1U cameras.
3) I dont really need the progressive mode of the FX7 (which is really the only 'new' big feature that camera seems to have)
I've been told I wont be disappointed, so we will see when I get it all assembled!
